This instillation is comprised of two projects that run in parallel, the first is Greed Transcends Time and the second is The Biases Of Facial Recognition. They highlight ancient identity and futuristic surveillance giving rise to a proposed solution to unseen problems.
Greed transcends time is a pavilion that urgers viewers to learn and invites them to make better informed decisions on the companies they support. In Cape Town, South African at the intersection of the Blac river and the Liesbeek river lies a sacred river bed. This site served as a place for prayer and ritual for the indigenous Khoi and San people of the Cape. This Site is now under threat due as trading corporation Amazon move in to construct a new head office of the precipice of the river bank.
As the oldest community on earth, their history has always been under threat from colonial rule, apartheid, environmental degradation and now Amazon. According to the development plans and Amazon South Africa Spokes person, their is to be a heritage garden, media center and ampitheatre built to commemorate. The pavilion I propose encapsulates sites of learning focused specifically on history and learning. Centralized around providing jobs to indigenous people along with a learning center used to up skill.
Once on site the audience is free to explore each site whuch is dedicated to the various Khoi and San clans. Each instilation with their own plaque they are invited to learn and observe. The sites are as follows:
The first is Nama clan Is known for animal husbandry
Griqua clan who where traders and intermediaries between tradesmen and indigenous people
Korana clan is know for their hunting and gathering

I began by working with a software engineer to develop our own facial recognition model built in python from the data bases used by google facial recognition software. This is the most widely used databases used by facial recognition companies, this was to ensure a fair control. In this model we would insert an image of a person and the output would be the persons race and age. The model failed dismally at identifying persons correctly.
The structure is the face map used by the recognition software built from metal and displays human busts of the people used in the software model. Along with this, I created masks that could be used to hide from facial recognition cameras.
The Biases Of Facial Recognition: Patinaed metal pipes, canvas, 3d print, facial recognition software
